Five Minute Friday Writing Prompt—Replace

I suppose there is a little gypsy in all of us? Why do I think I need to travel to experience joy over where God has planted me? Oh, to take a trip somewhere…how grand that would be, I find myself thinking.

But this past week-end re-opened my eyes. My daughter’s baby shower was held here at my house. Hosted by my long-time best friend and her most capable, energetic daughter. How precious and dear it was. The room was full of so much love I could hardly contain it.

Where could I ever find a place to replace that joy, love and caring that came from these lovely ladies? There is no place I could go to replace these moments in life. My heart is full. Glory!

Five Minute Friday Writing Prompt—Moment

Wherever you are–be there.

I came across this thought a while ago and have held it in my heart ever since. It reminds me to live and be in the moments of life I find myself, sans the distractions that try to fill my days.

The cell phone is a daily culprit for keeping me from being there in my moments of life. Often I have found myself on it while ‘visiting’ with a friend, spending time with family, or sometimes out walking the dogs. Really? I ask myself. Just exactly where am I? Truth is I am on my cell phone.

I am allowing that device to steal my moments. Not anymore. It is put out of sight. It will not boss me or the precious times of my day. I will control it, not visa versa.

Wherever you are–be there.

Five Minute Friday Writing Prompt—Work

Work, here is a word with many differing ideas about it. I have ‘worked’ and successfully run our household for nearly forty-five years. Yet many folk do not consider this ‘work.’ Keeping a smooth running home is not real popular—never really has been, except perhaps during the ‘Leave it to Beaver’ days. At any rate it is my business, and I run it as such.

I do however have a one-day-a-week job outside my house. I say it helps me keep polite. It is a grand little job taking tours through the oldest home in town. I grew up in the tourist business, so it is a good fit.

My work at home has been a great success. Being my own boss, (wearing flip-flops all day!), setting my own hours schedule gives me flexibility to help in our community and church. There is a lot of freedom I could have never enjoyed with an outside job.

In all work there is profit. Proverbs 14:23

Abram’s Delight—oldest home in Winchester.

Five Minute Friday Writing Prompt—Deliberate

I know God has made all things well.

Every property out here has a pond. They are not big ponds, but waterfowl enjoy them. We have Canada geese on all of them for they are deliberate in their return to previous nesting places.

It is exciting hearing the geese every spring making their way ‘back home’. Our neighbors pond is larger than our farm pond, so he sees far more geese than we.

This family, however, has been all over both properties. I believe they know and are very deliberate in what they are doing. They make me laugh the way this little family deliberately runs all over the properties! This early morning they were up by the barn before they made their way to the pond!

Five Minute Friday Writing Prompt—Persist

What would you persist in to your own detriment? Regardless of the cost in regards to your faith, family or freedom?

Persist is a hard action word that involves self-sacrifice, work, diligence, pain and perhaps sorrow.

In the words of Winston Churchill, Englands Prime Minister during World War II:

This, dear reader, is the epitome of the word persist.

Five Minute Friday Writing Prompt—Break

To break a promise. Ouch. Something that can be hard to keep and easy to break, a promise. For this reason I make very few of them. Sometimes, I know, it cannot be helped to break one. I suppose that is why they should not be made often.

How comforting it is to know The Lord never breaks His promises to us. Do you know that? Do you believe it?

I will never leave you nor forsake you. ~Jesus

I was always taught to never say ‘never’. Yet I believe Jesus. He has never failed me. When I confess my sin He forgives me and helps me do better. Even if I have to break a promise.

He helps anyone who calls on Him. Glory! Won’t you give Him a try today?

Five Minute Friday Writing Prompt—Choose

I did choose very well eighteen years ago today. Casey Creek Farm in Kentucky was an adoption farm for abandoned nurse mare foals. We were adopting a beautiful, tiny one-month old buckskin filly. I choose her from a pile of photographs they had posted on their website.

Never having had any experience in raising a foal without its momma made it a scary yet exciting adventure to undertake. High Hope seemed the perfect name for her and me.

I could write pages about how High Hope has touched and blessed the lives of so many people in her eighteen years of life. She is a fine mare and one of the greatest joys of my life.

The photo I choose High Hope from.
Happy foaling day today, High Hope! Eighteen years ago today, March 10, 2005!

Five Minute Friday Writing Prompt—Ignore

How did our best friend become our best friend? Because we did not ignore them. We have deposited time and attention into their lives. They feel valued because of it. This is a two way street. We all know ‘The Golden Rule’ says ‘Do unto others what you would have them do unto you.’

Yet, I must check myself often with Jesus. How easy it is for me to ignore Him. Yet everyday He starts all over again with blessings toward me. He sure does not ignore me. How thankful I am.

What a friend we have in Jesus.

Five Minute Friday Writing Prompt—Doubt

Todays FMF word, doubt, is perfect. Along with this weeks writing prompt from Kate came an invitation to join Anita Ojeda’s 28 Day Writing Challenge for the month of February.

I have never considered myself a writer, but I do enjoy words, well-written stories and blogs, etc. So it seems daring for me to even enter into a group of writers. My doubt is high.

The biggest joy will be reading the other participants in the group. So, I will take the plunge, try to ignore my huge doubt and plan on having fun and learning much. Thank you, Anita, for hosting this opportunity.

Five Minute Friday Writing Prompt—Receive

For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” Romans 8:15

The power of this passage gives me strength and hope. Listening to news, even only once a day, can bring on a fearful spirit of bondage (that is its intent) to my heart and mind. Thank God for His Words of comfort. I can be easily overtaken by the times we live in. Yet, God is in control, He hears our prayers, and He calms my worries.

I do not know what the future holds, but I know Who holds the future. Do you?
