Thursday Thoughts #87

Timer on:
This is a hard word. As defined in my old Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (5th ed), consume is to:
1. destroy, as by fire…
2. spend wastefully…
3. to eat or drink up (food); devour…
Putting a nice twist on these definitions is not easy. I’m thinking of Scripture, God is a consuming fire. Hebrews 12:29. Little wonder we are to stand in awe of Him, or more to the point, fall face down before Him—Woe is me for I am undone, because I am a man of unclean lips… Isaiah 6:5-9.
I know God is a loving God. He loved us before we loved Him. Yet we are to know how mighty and just He is, and not forget Who created whom. Glory to God for His great love for us.
Reminds me of the children’s song: Be careful, little eyes, what you see…

Timer off.
I am thinking this may sound rather odd to some of you. But here I go anyway.
Far. That word has been on my heart and mind since December. I felt it on my heart, ie, I felt far from my walk with Jesus. It fact, now don’t laugh, I found myself feeling rather like Solomon in his old age, when he fell far from his devotion to the Lord.
I felt far from the disciplines I hold firm. I have recently been a slacker in certain areas of my life. Consider how far you have fallen. Rev 2:5 I am reminded.
So I have begun this New Year in prayer and anticipation that God will hear my heart and help me regain my footing. Glory!

Jesus speaks, and what does He say to us? I was reading in Luke Chapter 12 this morning when I suddenly realized the direction of this week writing prompt was right here in chapter 12 of Luke.
What does Jesus say to us?
vs 4: And I say to you…
vs 5:…yes, I say…
vs 8: Also I say to you…
vs 22: Therefore I say to you…
vs 27: …yet I say to you…
vs 37: Assuredly I say to you…
vs 44: Truly, I say to you…
Jesus has much to say to us. Read and find out for yourself, won’t you?
And He will be the stability of your times. Isa 33:6
‘Why left behind in this skill?’ This was my thought as I read our word prompt for today.
Just what does that mean? The fine art of writing in cursive. It is not taught to our students anymore, and has not been for many years. But why? Why is it not taught?
I have not heard one legitimate reason for our young people being left out of this important skill and artistic expression. I have yet to meet someone who thinks it is a good idea.
Talking to a young woman who was out at a nice restaurant with her teenage nephew only proves my point of this lack in education of our youth. She was reading and thinking outloud about the delicious items on the menu. Which, by the way, was printed entirely in cursive. Her nephew told her he could not read any of it!
This, gentle reader, is a set-up for failure. My husband gave a written note to the young man clerk at the bank this week. He handed it back to my husband and asked him to read it for him. He couldn’t read the cursive...
I thought school was supposed to help set our students up for success?
Got so happy and busy with Thanksgiving, I failed to post my FMF writing prompt! Well, here it is, albeit late!
I wonder what the result would be if each of us practiced and lived out The Golden Rule. You know, that wonderful rule that hardly seems taught anymore?
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
I believe I am going to test the result this Thanksgiving week by being very mindful of and acting on this important rule of life. It is a timely week to try it, don’t you think? Care to join me? Let’s see what kind of results we get from family and friends this wonderful week of Thanksgiving.
Happy, Blessed Thanksgiving to all my FMF friends. 🙏🍁🦃

Well, as Christian bloggers, I do not know who would not think of Ecclesiastes 3 with this prompt. It truly is one of my favorite chapters in Scripture; To everything there is a season… Although I thought of 2 Timothy 4:2: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season.
So the question for myself is—how can I be prepared in and out of season? What exactly does this look like? Golly, sometimes I am not even prepared to make dinner for us at the last hour! Yet when I think on this verse, I am reminded to always have my eye and thought toward Jesus. I know then He will establish my thoughts, for He promises that. I find it a wonderful thing to keep myself focused on Jesus, yet I fail to do just that.
I do like being prepared though, i.e. prepared for the day, putting things in order before I need them, and planning ahead. Though I may not always know just what I am going to prepare for supper one night, I endeavor to keep my eye on Jesus. For He shall keep me prepared both in and out of season by His good grace and love towards us, if we would just turn to Him. Glory!
Strive. The word conjures up an image of hard work and effort, and rightly so, as that is it’s meaning. I am of retiring age so I do not feel the need to strive so hard at this stage in my life. Except for one thing very specific—strive to be more like Jesus.
I know folk like me far better when I example these traits Jesus showed us which we are called to live by and strive for: Honesty, dependability, giving others the benefit of the doubt, treating others the way we want to be treated, tender-hearted and forgiving, just to name a few. Would you agree?
Yet, Jesus is rejected by many of those He loves and came for. It seems rather like one dismissing a parent, yet at the same time selfishly taking and receiving all the wonderful benefits the parent has bestowed on the child. Does this make any sense to you, dear reader?
I love to anticipate. Do you? The days leading up to an upcoming party, trip or big event. To anticipate it for me has always added extra value to the event and even more time for enjoying it.
What will the weather be? Will this event be enjoyed by attendees? Are they looking forward to this event as I am? Would I ever want to do it again? I can say the biggest event I anticipate is meeting Jesus!
Sometimes even a rather frightful event can be made better in how we anticipate for it. Would you agree? Often those things I was not looking forward to turned out better than I anticipated!
How about you?
Opinions are like noses, everybody has one.
Hearing this years ago made me laugh. It is true for sure isn’t it? It also makes me think. Just where do my opinions come from? How are they formed? What do they say about me? Can we change them?
I am unapologetically Christian so my opinions are rooted in Scripture: What God tells me about myself, the way I am to view life, how to think, how to treat others, how to live with others in this world, and how much Jesus loves me, to name a few.
How about you? Where do you opinions come from? Good questions to ask ourselves every now and then.
