Five Minute Friday Writing Prompt—Store

Our final FMF prompt for this year—store.

I think of store as always needing to get to for yet another item or gift in preparation for Christmas. Scripture also comes to mind, as its wisdom teaches us to store up treasures in Heaven. Golly! How do I make these two meet? I feel like a slave to one and a slacker towards the other.

Intention and prayer is my answer. I must go to the store to prepare well for Christmas, and I must not loose sight of what I store in Heaven by serving well in this season.

Lord, grant me the wisdom to attend to each store well.

Merry Christmas FMF friends, and dear readers.🌲

Five Minute Friday—Left

‘Why left behind in this skill?’ This was my thought as I read our word prompt for today.

Just what does that mean? The fine art of writing in cursive. It is not taught to our students anymore, and has not been for many years. But why? Why is it not taught?

I have not heard one legitimate reason for our young people being left out of this important skill and artistic expression. I have yet to meet someone who thinks it is a good idea.

Talking to a young woman who was out at a nice restaurant with her teenage nephew only proves my point of this lack in education of our youth. She was reading and thinking outloud about the delicious items on the menu. Which, by the way, was printed entirely in cursive. Her nephew told her he could not read any of it!

This, gentle reader, is a set-up for failure. My husband gave a written note to the young man clerk at the bank this week. He handed it back to my husband and asked him to read it for him. He couldn’t read the cursive...

I thought school was supposed to help set our students up for success?

Five Minute Friday Writing Prompt—Result

Got so happy and busy with Thanksgiving, I failed to post my FMF writing prompt! Well, here it is, albeit late!

I wonder what the result would be if each of us practiced and lived out The Golden Rule. You know, that wonderful rule that hardly seems taught anymore?

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

I believe I am going to test the result this Thanksgiving week by being very mindful of and acting on this important rule of life. It is a timely week to try it, don’t you think? Care to join me? Let’s see what kind of results we get from family and friends this wonderful week of Thanksgiving.

Happy, Blessed Thanksgiving to all my FMF friends. 🙏🍁🦃

An Urgent Prayer Request

I am writing a fast post to make a prayer request of you. We are in a severe drought, far below normal water levels. Rainfall has been one-quarter of what it should be for the month of October.

There are now fires burning in our parks in the mountains. The largest one is the Matts Creek Fire. Located five miles southeast of Glasgow, VA. It is on National Forest and the Blue Ridge Parkway in Rockbridge and Bedford counties. Over 5,000 acres have been burned. It is not yet contained.

Smoke is thicker than it looks.

The Quaker Run fire in Shenandoah National Park and Madison County, looking on the inciweb.nwcg.gov says is 100% contained. Glory.

My clothes smelled like smoke when I came in from outside.

My prayer request is urgent nonetheless. Our county is under water restrictions again. This is the second time in recent months because of declining groundwater levels.

We are in desperate need of rain. I ask for your prayers for rain and the wind to abate so fires get under control.

The wind is making it harder. This is a huge flag!

Thank you very much for your prayers.

True…so true.

Halloween Fun

Having a project to work on has been motivating to me for as long as I can recall. Size does not matter, small or a larger one for the farm, are all exciting as I envision working them out and arriving at the finished effort.

I must give credit where credit is due though. I have my older sister to thank for this insight. We regularly have grandchildren visit us here on our farm. There are lots of things going on that entertain and keep them busy. Our fisherman grand boys can very nearly spend all day at the pond.

I must admit I have never really thought of doing special little mostly DIY projects with the children. There is plenty here to keep them busy, but often they want us to sit/play/listen to them. Talking this over with my sister solved the issue altogether. She showed me some real pretty crafts she and her grandchildren had worked up together. They made big, lovely snowflakes out of brown paper bags. So pretty!

A couple of our grands were coming for a day visit just before Halloween. I decided we would carve a pumpkin together and make buckeye candies from a cute recipe thanks to: http://onceuponachef.com

The fun and laughter we had together was more than I ever expected! “Granny,” my little grandson said without looking up from putting eyes on our candies. “Yeah, honey?”

“I love you.”

“I love you too!”

I sent the pumpkin and a plate of our yummy, mummy buck eye candies back home when his parents picked him up.

It was a fun, happy day for us. I now have cute Thanksgiving projects for us next week! Thank you, my dear sister.

The pumpkin face our grandson picked out.
Preparing chocolate to cover the peanut butter balls.
Dipping the balls in chocolate to make the buck eyes.
The laughs and giggles as we put on the eyes–oh my!
Our silly, yummy buck eye candy mummies! Boo!!
