Timer on:
This is a hard word. As defined in my old Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (5th ed), consume is to:
1. destroy, as by fire…
2. spend wastefully…
3. to eat or drink up (food); devour…
Putting a nice twist on these definitions is not easy. I’m thinking of Scripture, God is a consuming fire. Hebrews 12:29. Little wonder we are to stand in awe of Him, or more to the point, fall face down before Him—Woe is me for I am undone, because I am a man of unclean lips… Isaiah 6:5-9.
I know God is a loving God. He loved us before we loved Him. Yet we are to know how mighty and just He is, and not forget Who created whom. Glory to God for His great love for us.
Reminds me of the children’s song: Be careful, little eyes, what you see…

Timer off.
A very wise little song.

Isn’t it though? I’m glad you like it, Sandra. Thank you for your comment. 🙂
It is easy to get consumed by things that don’t matter, isn’t it! Time is so consumable these days, I wonder where does it go? I like your 5 minute writing challenge!
Good 5 minute writing!

Thank you very much.🙂
I don’t like the word ‘consume’
’cause I like to build my stuff,
and that leads people to assume
that I’m OK with living rough.
I would rather fix my clothes
and carry a homemade knife,
so folks I know turn up their nose
in bleak disdain for my cool life.
They buy stuff from Calvin Klein
and drive the cars they cannot fix,
but I’d rather have what’s mine
and live way out here in the sticks
with homemade tools and homespun dress
with only cows to impress.
Andrew, this is great! It makes me smile. Thank you for sharing it with us!
